Earth Hour 2022

How would you feel about taking an hour out of your day to turn off all your electronics and reflect on the impact we have on our planet earth?

You may have participated in Earth Hour in the past, but for anyone who is still to discover it, let us tell you a bit about this yearly movement. It began in Sydney, Australia in 2007 to raise awareness for climate change and has since become a yearly event for people in 190 countries and territories. This year it will take place on March 26 at 8:30 pm for people in any time zone. We like to think of it as a very slow wave passing through the Earth as each time zone goes in and out of that hour.

Although it may seem silly or unimportant to switch off our devices for an hour every year, this practice has surpassed the symbolic action and has become a catalyst for awareness, conversations, and actions towards the effects of climate change. It may seem daunting at times to think of the heating of the earth and the increased unpredictability of weather events and climate. This hour, although short, allows us to step back and participate in something bigger than ourselves and see that we are not alone in these times.

But your actions do not have to stop here, there are many other ways in which you can participate in Earth Hour this year that surpass turning off your lights. The official website of the campaign suggests you go for a walk at this time, have a candle-lit meal with your family members or friends, as well as pick up a book about climate change. Still unsatisfied? You can go online and research current petitions that are being proposed to your government representatives and message them about it.

At Brío Soul Apparel, we will be using Earth Hour this year to reflect on our journey; the impact we will have on our environment, the reduction of waste materials by using recyclables in our manufacturing process, and the many companies we will work with that share our dreams and values of a sustainable future for all. Our apparel is made to last and form a part of your closet for years to come, reducing emissions from the consumer side.

Earth Hour is not only about this one hour, it’s about raising awareness of an ever-evolving crisis we are a part of. We hope you share this event with your friends and set a reminder to participate together with millions of other people.

See you on the 26th! Well, maybe we won’t because your lights will be shut off, but we will be there with you in brío!
